Why have I stayed local?

I do this for a number of reasons:

I like personal contact with my customers.

My output has been doubling every year without going outside of Staffordshire.

Working with local fruit rather than drums of fruit concentrates means that there is a long lead in time for many of my preserves. If I haven’t got enough strawberries in the freezer you can’t have strawberry until June! So it is best for both myself and my customers to allow my customer base to grow slowly steadily and organically.

Moving heavy stuff like glass around the country is awkward in terms of packaging and really expensive in terms of distribution costs. I had not even considered looking for a distributor until I was given an order by Harrods. Now I have a cooperative link with another specialist food company who can distribute to certain parts of the country at reasonable costs.
