The “slow” movement is all about not rushing through life, and taking the time to enjoy the things we do, and how things are, and how things taste.
I like to think that Jam Today fits with this.
I get a lot of pleasure from knowing that for many of my customers there may be a few minutes when one of my preserves adds something to their day.
Maybe it is just fancy, but I have this strange idea that how I feel whilst I am working on the preserves comes through into the finished product. Because of that I always try to ensure that I am in the right mood to enjoy working with the fruit!
There can be pressures, mainly from trying to make the most of the various fruits in their short seasons, but I do rather enjoy feeling of working with the seasons and getting the harvests in.
As the demand for my preserves has grown I have needed to accept offers of help, to be able to keep producing enough. I was not at all certain that I would be able to work with people around me. It has however been a real pleasure to find that the people who have appeared from nowhere to help me seem to get as much pleasure from the processes as I do myself.
We work in a pleasant place. It is a light and airy building in my very wild and natural garden. There is not a lot of noise, as most of the processing is carried out by hand, with just a little light machinery to help on one or two of the processes.
We make the preserves with care, and I hope that you feel cared for when you eat them. No two batches are ever the same, so slow down, and take a little time to enjoy the pot that you have!
